Servicing Answer Manitou 1's

Hi Chaps,

I managed to track down an elastomer kist for my Answer Mani 1's and am going to service them.. Fom memory, its a caseof getting a very long 6m Allen Key, un doing the bolt, take the bolt out, remove the elastomers, replace them with new ones, put bolt back in and badabing baddaboom, just like new..

Way off, or close...??

Copey,

you beat me to those elastomers! First time I'd ever bid for anything on eBay, and didn't know about auction sniping  so got up at 4 am (UK time) on Sunday to place a last minute bid. How thick did I feel when my sister told me about using sniping? Hope you have got them okay anyway. I'm going to keep a look out in case more appear.

I posted some instructions for doing this a few weeks back straight from the manual. Main bit is leaving enough room on the bolt so that you can get the lower bushing back in. My instructions are the 2nd post down. Once they're back together you have to wiggle the allen key a bit to get the bolt seated correctly so that you can tighten them. Also, only tighten each side a bit at a time otherwise you'll struggle to get the bolt for the 2nd side back in.

Hi Damien,

Sorry about that mate, I just put in a really high maximum bid because I really needed them.. I got sniped recently on an original 'Doug' Manitou Fork.. I was sooooooooooo gutted!!

Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know how i get on with the servicing..

Cheers

Mark

No problem,

if you need a scan of the manual page let me know and I'll e-mail it.

Remember to use the right grease (lithium-based turned mine to treacle which then stuck to everything it touched when I took the forks apart)

This isn't a blatant plug because not that worried if i get to keep them for posterity, but due to various reasons I am selling my Manitou 2's

They will come with a NOS set of Answer elastomers, long allen key and if it floats your boat the original box.

Cheers

Rich,

thanks for that. I saw your Manitou 2s for sale and was very tempted as they look in fantastic condition and the steerer is the right diameter (could just drop my threaded steerer straight into the crown), but I'm trying to buy a new bike at the moment so I'll have to hang onto my cash for now.

I'm going to keep the Dyna-Tech and Manitou 1s and keep looking out for some elastomers though. If I don't find any decent elastomers in the next couple of months I may be knocking on your (metaphorical) door to see if you're still interested in selling your Manitou 2s and the service kit.

Cheers,
Damien

No problem Damien and looks like they will be going back in the cupboard for a while, so knock if you want them

Good luck with the search, sure something will come up on the bay and you can get sniping next time.

Would be great if someone unearthed a box full of these old elastomers, have asked all the places I could think of though and sure you have too.

All the best
Rich
