Seized Freewheel!

I just returned from the LBS who were unsuccessful in their attempts to remove the freewheel from my Bullseye hub (so that I can fit my new one). Mechanic laughed and showed me the two tools he broke trying to remove it (4 pin Park freewheel removers)

Has anyone got any ideas how else I can remove it?

Definately a freewheel, not a cassette? If so what make of freewheel is it? Shimano/Suntour etc...

definately a freewheel (screw-on type) and its a Suntour 7 speed!

Well, it depends on what condition the edges are for the tool to mate up against, but BITD, we always used to put the tool in the vice, then turn the wheel, wheel giving extra leverage.... Failing that, a good soak with a decent penetrating (i use Pen Oil, but it is pricey....), but i expect it might kill the bearings. On occasions like this, i always rely on my Father-in-law!!!

had same problem years ago,i can assume he`s locked the tool into the free wheel with the QR so it wont move, should n`t break if he`s done that,we had to dissasemble the free wheel and lock the body in the vise.Think we warmed it a bit as well with loads of wd40,if that dont work start to chissel it of

BikeHoarder/Monsterfat - thanks guys. Going to try some penetrating oil over the weekend but yes he did put the the skewer through it, put it in a vice, use wheel for leverage etc and two broken tools.....

Best try and get my sachs off now...

good luck...............................Jango has a DeWalt anglegrinder. Gonna have some fun with that!

I have a stihl 14" Cut off saw with a diamond blade on it that the fire services use, if all else fails give me a shout

However just to second what Bike Hoarder said, when I worked in a LBS we used to get all the recks in with seized freewheels, I sometimes applied a bit of heat, then fit the tool in a F**K off Vice and place the freewheel/wheel over the tool in the vice and turn away, used to work a treat everytime..
