Scott Scale concept

My friend was kind enough to give me this carbon fibre Scott Scale limited concept frame, there is a catch though the bb is toast.
Couple of questions about it if anyone can help, what year is it from and could the bb be fixed? The bottom bracket has sheared on the drive side it looks like it was bonded to the frame, never seen one like that before.

If the other side was taking out would there be a press fit style bb to fit it, i'd love to get it built up.

You can get bbs that are essentially 2 halves that screw together so you don't need threads. However, I'd worry a but about doing that directly on to the carbon, do you have the bit that sheared off?

There are a few places that do carbon frame repair, seen many a thread online about bonded bottom brackets coming loose, so should be something repairable.

Don't think they went press fit until long after that one was discontinued.

Think they have like two aluminum top hats bonded in with a sleeve between them, they'll be specific Scott parts, so i doubt they'll still have them. Might be worth seeing if you can take the other one out and get a new 73mm threaded sleeve bonded in and braced up. If there is no other damage to the frame it shouldn't be too much. (dunno exactly, maybe 80-100 quid? Or if you are handy, you could probably DIY it.)

I have the 2008 version of that frame in the attic, under a kilo (~980 grams i think mine was) was still racing/riding it until 2 years ago.......

He never had the other half of it, this is all he had and said good luck I like a challenge though

I've never weighed but its unbelievably light that's for sure, they must be strong frames if you were still racing it up until 2 years ago so hopefully it's just the bb what was damaged. It's probably the best way taking the other side out and start from scratch,my plan to build it was just to make a lightweight single speed posh pub bike, not that we can go to pubs at the moment though

I'd be tempted to get a BB shell from another frame, cut/chisel/burn the mangled one out and bond in the whole BB tube from the other frame.

Cheap - yus.

Do-able at home - yus.

Perfect - Nah.

Fun project - yus.

I reckon I could get that done with a drill, dremel and a few files. Just do your best to get it aligned right, and use a decent epoxy.


It looks like the surrounding part is fibreglass (Carbon + alu = corrosion) so you could use an alloy BB shell for extra lightness.
