Scott Endorphin Race Spec

Retro Newbie
This is my bike.
A Scott Endorphin from around 1996 (I think), with mostly original components. I saw it going cheap, second hand around 2003, and it's been a dream to ride since. However, I'm giving it a long overdue upgrade (forks are dying), and will have some spare parts which I think someone here might want. I'm not exactly sure what's going to be on the bike when it's finished, but I'm open to suggestions.

Currently, it has:-
RockShox Judy XC forks,
Shimano XT M739 groupset (STI shifters, front & rear derailleur, crankset, rear hub).
Original rear wheel with Mavic X221 rim.
Unbranded, crappy front wheel changed 4-5 years ago.

The only other thing that's un-original on the bike atm are the pedals. I've changed them today for some cleated pedals as need to do some road training, and the originals (red) are back at the bike shop.

Anyway, the forks are dying, so I got told I needed to replace them. On eBay, I found a beaut pair of 2007 SID world cups complete with V-brake fittings going at a bargain price. I didn't win them... :(
But then, determined to get a pair of carbon fibre SIDs to match my carbon fibre bike, I order some new ones from America at 3 times the price.. :(
These don't have V-brake fittings, so I ordered a front XT M775 disc brake. Sorted I thought. But no, the front brake lever on the bike is attached to the rear shifter, 'cos of the STI shifter design, so I've got to replace the rear gear shifter too. That'd mean needing to replace the entire groupset for a more modern 9 or 10 speed set up. Don't know if I can be bothered with such an operation, but decent 8-speed shifters seem hard to come by. Also, the current XT components all work great as is.
Going to try and get a decent, second hand 8-speed shifter, as new ones are rubbish, but I'm also wondering whether I should sell the entire groupset together and replace it all at once, or sell it off bit by bit..

Whoa there, did you just say that you ordered a complete front brake kit?

Keep in mind that 99% of the world has the front brake on the LEFT, so there might be a chance that you get a left lever with that kit.
So you'll either need to get a front shifter and learn how to ride with the brakes the correct way around, or you might need to get a right-hand lever on top of that rear shifter you're looking for.

The kit is just the lever and the caliper. Yea, the lever's for the right side. I did think of that at least! ;)

i've recently got my hands on one of these too.
almost the polar opposite on colour though.
mines yellow wth blue details.

they are freakin awesome machines though, they really do go like stink with the correct power supply. ;)
