Why why why did I use evil bay?

A few weeks I bought a modern xtype race face chainset on eBay.

When it arrived it was significantly more worn than how it was pictured. I think the seller photoshopped it. One of the bearings in the external cups was seized.

I then arranged with the seller a ruturn citing those 2 issues.

It went back to the seller the next day. Here's where the fun started... The seller went quiet for a week and then claimed that I had swapped out his good parts for my bad ones!!

He then refused to refund until I sent back 'his' parts, which magically don't exist because guess what I sent back what he sent me. We've then spent the last week going back and forth with the same argument.

I've opened up a eBay dispute but this seems to have made the seller more millitant. And here's the rub, he's now resold the item!!!

So he's sold it twice and got 2 peoples money, meanwhile still claiming I sent him back dodgy parts.

I'm £50 out of pocket.

Anyone got any advice of where to go next? Anyone had more luck with paypal claims or credit card chargebacks?

Any advice apreciated

D

It might take a while, but Paypal will sort this out. Start disputes...keep all correspondence and forward to Paypal. Fingers crossed I have never lost a PP claim either as a buyer or a seller.....bombard PP with as much information as possible...keep them up to date etc and you will get your money back.

just escalate the Ebay dispute. They have a buyers protection plan now. I'm fairly sure they'll sort you out with a full refund.

Wow. I excalated the dispute in the phone with eBay. 15 minutes later the case was closed and I got a refund.

Anyone know what our retro etiquette is on naming and shaming? The guy had other bike bits and I wouldn't want anyone else on here suffering the same misfortune.

name and shame away, if they do wrong to one, they will likely do it to others. Best to make other aware.

Glad you got it sorted, but i think you have to go along the "too good to be true" lines sometimes. There is the odd bargain about, if you drop on, but, how many other RF chainsets and bb's have you seen going for that price bearing in mind how much a set of their rings are??

I think this is what makes the "for sale" part of this forum great; pics+ prices asked;if you dont think its worth it or its shonky, you don't buy.....
You can always do a bit of digging if you're unsure who you're dealing with.

Unfortunately i don't think you can leave really negative feedback anymore; its against their civil liberties, or someting apparently.
