How do the frames of these old sub £500 Saracens compare with their contemporaries? They always look well designed and built, are the frame materials half decent?

They usually have Tange tubes but are heavier than those higher up the range due to a lack of butting.

Saracen seemed to have had a knack of adding one more butted tube to the frameset as you go up the range.

For example the Sahara would have just one butted tube in the front triangle.
Progressing up the range to the Kili frames, which would have all the tubes in the main and the rear triangles butted. Thus they would be much lighter and more compliant.

The overall build quality was still good in the lower end of the range and they had similar features to those at the top end. The heavier frames like on that Terratrax won't be as lively and springy but will still ride nicely.
