Santa Cruz seatpost size

Help please.
I have justbought A Santa Cruz Superlight, '05/'06 (?)
The seat clamp is 31.8mm, and the seller thought the post size is 27.2mm.
I've just tried one in there and it's a bit rattly until clamped up. Is this the correct size post? If not, what?

Early (earlier than yours) used 27.2 but modern 30.9

Cheers Carl. It's definitely not a 30.9. Must be 27.2.
The seller bought it as an '07 but that year didn't have canti bosses.
It could be earlier than '05. When did the seat tube size change?

Mmm...don't quote me I'm no expert, but I reckon about 2003/4. I reckon yours might be 03. Any give aways with the frame number...thought it started or ended with the year?

Plenty. Even Inspector Clouseau could get this:
A501 272 97 (but no spaces)
but does that make it an '05 or an '01, or a '97?

Mmmm....actually I can't remember where the year was but
by deduction....well, pure guessing
Can't be 97 as I don't think they were made then
Can't be 05 as it would have disc mounts
Therefore it is an 01.....maybe????

I shoulda said, it has canti and disc mounts and was bought new with an RP3

Nice frame....looks in great condition. Its def. pre 2006 as the pivot 'bars' for want of a better description changed then.
Think you are probably right with 2005.....back where this thread started
I still think this should be a 27.2 post though

Yeah, I think it is 27.2. It clamps up nicely without any aggro.
