Sanding floorboards.......worth it?

yes worth it.

although, sometimes you can get away with washing them and oiling. There are some nice and fairly natural treatments you can use to make them look good.

(half) Done ours.

 T Shirt quote right there.

Wooden floors can be lovely. I like mine.

My wife doesn't mind me building bikes on wooden floors. She doesn't feel quite the same way about carpeted rooms

true. for the budding cycle grease monkey then an area with out carpet is good. Degreaser is good to remove oil staines.
But carpet the rest of the house is 8) remember get the best underlay you can afford makes all the difference to the carpet

heres what i did.go to b n q.buy lots of tounge an groove varnished flooring ready stained.buy polysyrene sheets.lay down poly sheet after doing the nails .nail down pre varnished floor boards down on top putting nails in a v shape to prevent loosening.....takes 2 days from start to finish including beading for the edges...cost 130 quid to do 4m x 4m living room.no dust no probs...and when i move the floor gets taken up and comes with me. 8)

if you can? lift and turn the boards over, that way you may get a better surface to work with? also by re-laying them you can close up the gaps and stop the possability of the wife dropping her wedding and loosing it under the floor three days after you finish sanding and varnishing said floor your now lifting at 10pm on a sunday evening.......

and yes I did find the ring 3m away from the crack it fell through

Get someone else in to do it for you, least that's what I will be doing when the time comes. Varnished floorboard and a huge Vivienne Westwood rug in the middle, excellent!

Beware of high heels though(yes I know your secret)

Sounds more like we now know yours

I once removed the carpet in a rented place , I could tell they were proper so lifted up a corner to have a peek and saw some quite nice wood . Wasn't quite so nice in the middle  so I ended up painting , although I should have found out the correct way to paint it as I didn't . Whenever I left a bike in one spot for too long the paint stuck to the tyres better than the wood , oh well you move on and remember not to do it crap next time .
