Can this selle italia flite titanium be saved, is there a product to put on this surface to restore it to a useable state or is it fit for the bin?

It looks awesome, perfect for a ratty pub bike! If you bin it, please put it in my bin :D

Recovering might be possible, but I think you need some experience in leather working to get a nice result?

First, try some shoe products! Enough products on the market to revive the colours and leather of old shoes!

I assume its leather. Some leather dye first to bring the colour back whilst its absorbent then some shoe polish. If its really dry use some hand cream eg E45 the polish. It won't take much.
As I am an expert recycle it with me.

to recover it, the leather piece thickness and suppleness is of paramount importance

if you don't dare do it - send it to me

here are a few flites I did recover with a tutorial if you are handy enough
( the nose and underside is quite tricky  )

Re:

Thanks for all you advice, recovering looks tricky but entirely possible, I love a challenge :D

Thanks for the link M. B, you've done a really good job on those saddles!
Good tip on using bulldog clips :D

Re:

Interesting thread! I recovered an old saddle, VI Luxe or something. Was not too difficult, result was OK but not as good as bduc61's - especially like that white Flite with the perforated leather.

Another question (hopefully relevant): does anyone know if it's possible to recreate the lettering stamped on the leather? I have a couple of old Unicanitors and it would be nice to have the logo on the side if possible. Does anyone know how this process was done?

now you are getting demanding

I thought about that too !

I started to write an answer and now have seen the previous post

I completely forgot the answer to my earlier post - senility is arriving

very nice solution 8)

initially I had written this answer which to a certain extent stays valid for certain points and opens new ideas with the 3D printing !

the first two steps are probably the same - and the airbrush is a nice solution - assuming the paint is durable

the issue of the texture of the leather comes possibly in question - so with a nubuck style leather - possibly more tricky

INITIAL ANSWER

I would say first you would need to recreate a "printing block"
With 3D printing now, I would say feasable at a reasonnable cost but you need to master the following steps

1) do a picture of the old
2) rework it in a software to correct the flaws entailed by the three dimensionnal view of the pic
3) model the block in 3 dimension with sketchup or else
4) manufacture the block
5) master the issue of ink that would be appropriate on leather and the quantity to put on the block so as not to deteriorate or "drip" at the edges og the lettering
6) print on the non flat surface

that makes a lot of crafts to master

Un fortunately, even if I consider myself handy enough  I don't master all these  so for the moment , I have put aside the issue !

Embossing could also be a solution possibly more elegant but again - you need a block ( possibly in metal ) and know the technique - is it done with heat ?, do you do it before applying the leather ( then very trickt to put it the proper place) .....

Re:

In the past this was done using silkscreen printing, which is in effect a photo stencil and printing ink.
