Funny thing you should mention the sizes as it has caused me much confusion.
The Trek was originally advertised as a 54 because the ctc of the seat tube is 54. However, the measurement to to the seat clamp is 57cm and the top tube ctc is 56.5/57, which to me suggests it's not a 54. Also the cranks are 172.5cm. The reason it looks so small is the smaller headtube, which is only 13cm. My theory was it's a replica, therefore has a more race orientated geometry.
The Colnago is a 58cm ctt seat tube and a 57cm ctc top tube. So all in all, not wildly different.
