Since I don't have any screw-on hubs anymore I have a little used sachs 13-28 8s freewheel for sale. It's been sitting unused for a few years, so will probably need a squirt of oil. Not sure what these are worth, so 30 GBP posted to the UK ?

Thanks, Andy

what's the condition of the pawls? You say it needs a squirt of oil does that mean it's siezed or very stiff?

Hi, no it's not at all seized or stiff, it just spins without a definite 'pawl' sound, if you know what I mean. Maybe it's supposed to be like that and I've just become used to campagnolo cassette hubs! The pawls work though - it only spins one way, they engage fine the other way.

Thanks, Andy

ok, but if you need new wheels then you're probably better going with cassette hubs - newer hubs are compatible with older cassettes (if you need 8 speed), and tend to be stronger than freewheel hubs. Usually freewheels are bought to keep old hubs going, not the other way around!

I had a pair of Mavic 501s on Mavic MA40 rims that I used with my Campag 8 speed set up and sold them. :x
Mavic 501 hubs work perfect, come with 130mm axle length as standard and also have a little spacer that unscrews to make them 126mm compatible if you want to run them with an older bike.
The hubs are the sniz both in looks and performance.
Now, just to find a pair...lol

just hope I don't find them first! I've always wanted a set, but then found some NOS sachs new success cassette hubs, which are as good, if not better

I had the very same ratio Sachs as yours and sold that too, the fact they were steel sprockets appealed to me as I'm a bit of a masher but I couldn't justify (at the time) to keep them plus the Recordsp hub/CXP33/custom touring cassette.
Now I can.. :D
I've not had experience of the New Success but I've some lower suntours that just seem to go on & on. Are the NS cartridge bearings?
