Retro Newbie
Hi everyone,

Attempted to switch over some suspension forks on my Zaskar LE Team last night and it's blown my mind a little!
The bike is 1 1/8" straight steerer but the forks are ever so slightly tapered at the crown, so measure 1.185" vs 1.125" (just over 30mm) for the rest of the steerer. The bottom of the bearing arrangement therefore won't sit on the crown of the fork without getting stuck.
Tapered steer to me was always 1.25 to 1.5" so this has me confused. Can anyone make sense lf this for me?!

Thank you.

The bottom of the steerer tube is always larger diameter, just above the crown, to make the crown race a drive (press) fit.
The crown race is supposed to get stuck there ;)
Is that what you mean ?

Hi, the crown race is alr3ady pressed into the headtube. The problem is the lower part of that bearing (like a chamfered ring that sits inside the bearing and is flat to the top of the fork crown). That seems overly tight for what the steerer increases in width by. Feel like I'd split it if i forced it down.

Might be worth starting over with a new headset but are all 1 1/8" straight headsets the same. That would probably answer my question.
