Hi - i have some 1993 quadras with the shock boots on - i never found them that useful aesthetically speaking but can i remove them or are they actually there because the seals are poo!

No, they can come of and you can run the forks 'naked'!

All new forks now tend to be bootless.

Cheers pickle

I know all new forks come bootless but thougt the rockshox forks might have seals that disintergrate in water like manitou seem to have done in the last 3 years!!!

I ran Manitou's, Pro-Circuit and Rock Shox through the mid 90's.

My Rock Shox (Quadra's actually  ) ran boots, but the Manitou's and Pro-Circuit's didn't and I didn't have any ill effects as a result.

I would say as long as you keep them clean and serviced there shouldnt be any problems.

i dont think the quadras have a seal in them like a mag 21 would have---its just the upper sliding into the bushing---i remember reading reviews where water got in them and more or less turned them into a "rigid" fork---i imagine you could somehow use a mag 21 style seal on top if you wanted

That actually happened to me once, with boots on doing river crossings. Would have siezed up sooner without the boots. Took a complete dissembly and regreasing.
