Rockshox mag 20/21/sl ti overhauling?

Im currently trying to rebuild a mag 21 also. I have pulled it apart down to the mail seal but of course am having problems separating the upper and lower tubes due to the air valve needing a rebuild or modification.

anyone know how the main seal removal tool grabs the main seal? Does it loop on the bottom and then develop pressure by unscrewing to pull it up and out?

Its cool to see others working on this retro fork also!

You either blow them apart or use the tool if you gave it...
Blow apart...
Oil inside, circlips out from above the main seal, then add loads of air till they go. Or if they still do not budge its use the tool you mention.... There is a picture in the archive.
But you slide it over the stanchion and then clamp the crown or grabbing too above it.
You then just twist it it, they are screwed together, if it gets hard you stick an open spanner on both parts..
So it basically pushes the lower leg of the stanchion.

Thanks fluffy chicken, I could not fully conceptualize what the main seal spreader tool was meant to do without having one. Its just a way to hold and then to pull the upper from the lower.

Currently my air valves will not hold air so the air trick is not an option..at least until I fabricate a fix. It may be as simple as clearing out the old rubbery seal (which comes right out) and using a RTV silicone. Then use a very narrow drill bit to facilitate a channel for the rock shock air pump needle.
