Rockshox Judy SLs Vs Rockshox Judy DHs

I cannot confirm what year the SLs are, I think they are 96, but looking at the other ones that were for sale on here they could be 98 ? ? ,

That last link john has not got any info on these years ...

Right then tape measure says...

SLs 420mm

DHs 440mm

Approx, as me eyes are a bit wobbly due to large amounts of alcohol..

:? :? :)

My 96 SLs gave 63mm travel (in theory) and were 43.5cms long, which is typical of forks with that kind of travel and consistent with modern 80s which are 45-45.5 and 100s which are 47-47.5.

So depending on precisely how much you've had to drink, I would guess that your SLs have been reset to 63mm at most - certainly the amount of stanchion showing doesn't look very much - less if anything than on my SLs. And I would guess the DHs are 80mm travel - from memory Z1s were the only single-crown forks that gave 100mm around 97/98.

As to what effect it will have on the bike's handling, it should certainly speed it up a bit, but whether that's an improvement or not depends partly on taste and partly on which bike it is and what length of fork it was designed for.

Well I was thinking to put them on my IBIS to reduce the weight slightly, this frame was, as far as I am aware designed around a 80mm fork,,, :)

Checked the measurements and my eyes arnt that bad, cos the good lady read those lines for me...

So could I adjust the SLs ? would I need to buy anything ?

TIA

It may just be a matter of removing a spacer in a service, but if it was mine, I would ask Tim Flooks for advice. http://www.tftunedshox.com/index.htm Unless anybody on here knows - I'll bet Scant does for one.

Yea Tim's really good, spoke to him this last week regarding changing the speed springs in my DH for something a bit 'softer' very good guy and super fast delivery

Just take the ti bolts off the sl and replace the steel ones on the dh.
The dh (from memory and recently buggering about with drapoons forks) is the only one with 2 cartridges one for compression and one for rebound.
Youd get more travel and a more tuneable fork to use.
