rock vs stump

Old School Grand Master
I have a local chance of a specialized rockhopper or a stumpjumper
both older models pre suspension

other than components which of the two is the better bike?

The geometry will be different too, so whilst the stumpie is classed the better bike the hopper might fit better which IMO is more important than tubeset but the stumpy does have the higher retro kudos.

'hoppers are underated IMO. A classic mid-range bike, the work horse of the age and often overlooked.

I've got a rockhopper comp that I will be building this summer so will let you know the differences/similarities between them both.

I've got a 93 Rockhopper and a 94 Stumpjumper, there's not a great deal of difference IMO. Like everyone says, the Stumpy would have been the more expensive bike when they were new.
