Im in the market for a sus fork, its for the torus so 80mm is about the maximum.
I was thinking either a 99 Z2 as it's 80mm or one of the fox forks[2nd hand of course]
Plus points here are it's new with warranty and will do 85mm and the steerer is new so no messing trying to find a big one.
The on-one clearance sale has them less than 1/2 the price of CRC etc
Negatives would include its heavy weight @ 5.3lbs.no doubt at this price there are plenty more. :?
General fart around duties, and definitely nothing rough.

Opinions and suggestions please :D :?

good reliable fork
heavy as you state

try to get a SID xc 80mm
light weight ,tough and reliable

The Tora 302 is a decent enough fork at that sale price, tough as old boots, work well but pretty heavy.

Rockshox Reba's are a superb fork, available in plenty of options, from 80mm 120mm (for 2011), very well damped, lockout, lightweight 3.5lb for the top end Reba World Cup, a bit tougher & stiffer than a Sid.

Older Reba's have V brake mounts, I don't think the last few years have had them (2011 ones certainly don't have V mounts)

If you do go for a modernish RS fork look for Motion Control damping, it's far better than the Turnkey system on the Tora 302 (which works OK).

If a 2nd hand Reba is out of your budget some Tora's come with MoCo damping, the Tora 318 is the best of the Tora range, it comes in multiple options (80mm, 100mm, 130mm, U-turn travel adjust, lockout...), not quite as heavy as the 302 @ ~4.9lbs but still a bit on the lardy side

The RS Recon is lighter (typical weight of 4lbs) than a tora & cheaper than a Reba & also comes in many options, again look for MoCo damping

Fox Float & F series forks are also superb forks well worth checking out 2nd hand or in the sales if within budget

recon race's on my zaskar are nice and light
seem to work well too
another option for you

There is some very good savings on fox forks in CRC at the moment, but they are still 3x my budget :(
But from what the talk is over their servicing or constant need rather and its putting me off getting them 2nd hand
I'd prefer something like a Z2 if i can find one in blue.It at least is well known well respected and lighter than many modern forks :?

I've run modern Fox & RS forks for upto 3 years with no servicing, they still worked fine!

Some folks have had some issues with them, but my 1st hand experience is that both Fox & Rockshox produce great forks.

I've used '06, '07 & 2010 Fox Float or F series & '08 RS Reba Race & SL

But sometimes it is better the devil you know!
