Rock Shox Mag 21 Long Travel Service Kits

Retro Newbie
I'm in the process of restoring a Cannondale Beast Of The East full XT mountain bike. All was going well until it came to the forks. I've tried all my local repair shops and the answers always the same
" you might as well throw them away and get new ones ". These were great forks and look right on this bike. So does anybody know where I can either get the parts or where I can get someone to service them for me?

Hello and welcome!

Fluffychicken is your man on here, as far as I can gather what he doesn't know about Mag 21's isn't worth knowing! Have a look here:

Looks like he will even sort them out for you for a cost, maybe worth sending him a private message (PM)?

Good luck!

Got your PM so searched for you thread.

I gather everything works.

A quick look over my forks suggests that they are in good condition and the seals look ok too. However when I sit on the bike they sag.
I realise that they need to be pumped up, what pressure do I need? I'm 'heavier than I was when I were young' stone.
Does the oil need replacing to suit my new bulk?
Where can I get this done ?

Pump them up, it is going to be the first test you have to do.
If you don't have a proper pump, get a decent football/basket ball needle (<2mm iirc, must actually check some day. Preferably with only a hole in the end and no sharp adges).
Lube the needle up, clean the air hole part and push it in gently.
Pump up to 60/100 PSI whatever the pump can do. It'll easily take that.
No air should come out.
They work around 40PSI, see the service manual.

As for oil, might as well give them an oil change if they are fine and set them all up to your weight.

I could explain but I think the manuals explain it ok and they give you the best standard setups.

Stick a picture up and I can tell you which year/model they are.

You have long travel in the title?

Rock Shox manuals are
http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/M ... e/Service/
best for setup is
http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/M ... 4.pdf.html

Thanks for that.
I'll have a go at the weekend.
The reason I say long travel is that they already had a long travel kit fitted by the shop I bought them from (Bromley Bike co/Evolution Imports)
As I said in my thread these are great forks and look right on my 'Dale.
I'll take a picture of them at weekend and add it to my post.
If I wanted to send them to yourself for an overhaul how much would it cost?

Thanks again for your help.
