Rock Shox Judy Dismantling Problem...............

I recently received a set of Judy FSX which are in excellent condition, but I have had a slight problem when atempting to dismantle them. I am hoping someone could help..........

The method that I have always used to remove the lowers from the stanchions is to unwind the bolts half a centimetre and tap the shafts out of the legs, thus releasing the lowers. However using this method on one of the legs of my recently acquired forks is proving unsucessful.......

The bolt in one leg simply rotates and doesn't undo...... I removed the elastomer stack and peered down the leg whilst rotating the bolt, to discover that the whole shaft is rotating!

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to resolve this?!

Many thanks in advance!

try putting the elastomer stack back in, then compress the forks whilst undoing the bolt.
And don't forget to pat your head at the same time.

if that fails you might have to resort to lopping the bolt head off

Thanks guys..... I was hoping I was doing something wrong  I'll try that Steve...... otherwise I guess drilling the head off is the only way to go?

I tried an allen bit in my drill to see if that would persuede it to budge..... no joy though..... the oil in the damper is probably a bit frothy now though!

maybe soaking it in a penetrating oil. cant think of the name of it now!

its better than wd40

I had this problem once whilst reassembling a Judy ( couldn't torque bolt down as shaft was rotating)- In the end I compressed th forks and used zipties round the crown and brace to keep them compressed - get them as tight as you can - might work for you.

good luck - it's a very nice fork - well worth saving.

Thanks guys......

I'll try a combination of all methods tonight I think!

I was going to try to find something that I could reach down the leg and grip the shaft with, but couldn't come up with anything......
