Road 653 frame transmorfed to Mtb (?)

as i couldnt find a nice frame for 26" wheels, 1", and a straight toptube, i decided to try and convert this Reynolds 653 road frame to take 26" wheels and canti brakes
had an ok rear converter, and had to make one for the front..from a brake booster
still a work in progress, ..not quite happy with the front brake, as it seems to move around, adjusting quite a bit...and the rear makes a sound.
have been looking for long reach road brakes, but cant find any with over 8 cm drop..
i know, mayby shouldnt do this on a thinwalled 653 frame.. but had to try it
just going 700c is under considoration aswell...

the ride is great, btw...light, nible...not planning to do any real mtb`in....just commuting... only a short trip sofar..

looks fun but that front brake is dangerous!

There is the possibility of it shearing straight off. The rear is being pushed into the frame.

These exist for 700c on 26" frames, I wonder if there is an alternative or a way to work them into your build.

Alternatively, just go with the flatbar road bike you have already built. Dual pivots will stop you better than the brakes you have right now.

These might be adapted too?

The Mavic adaptors would be a bit risky too.

I have some, and the profile narrows at the point where the Mavic logo is, drill a hole there and I suspect it would all be a little too weak.

Interesting idea though.

How about just using road brakes? I think you'd find some to fit over those tyres.

i agree, road brakes is the way to go...a bit risky with the cantis, either way
the nr 2 option, lgf...been looking, not finding anything...very thin walled rear tubes, and the forks...are nearly oval..
(if it was a fatter tubed alu frame..)

these a drop of nearly 8 cm...not many road brakes can handle it...with the 26" wheels..(tektro, dia compe..been looking)

the mavics,..yes, if it was the other way.. and there already was some studs to mount it to..otherwise its almost what i got going on now
would love some old Moots mounts...

im already in search for a 700c rear wheel, got a front....(and some 700c panaracer paselas...just love these tires..)

heh, was just waiting for someone to react like that....yes, was gonna upgrade to 2 heavy duty on each side, but going 700c
