Rip Sir Jimmy. Apparently he ran over 200 marathons and raised £40 million over the years for charity during his life as well.

RIP Jimmy Savile.

Jimmy 'Oscar' Saville was a top-level cyclist back in the late 40s & 50s !

Still had at least one of his machines from that era, too - during Louis Theroux's BBC documentary, at one point Sir Jimmy can be seen giving his Viking road bike a run-out on the rollers!

He took the name 'Oscar' from his bike - an Oscar Egg which were quite popular in the 40's and 50's. I understand he had it renovated by Bob Jacksons recently. This is a similar one -

I wouldn't say that he was a top-class rider but quite handy all the same. He started in an early version of the Tour of Britain riding for the Yorkshire team but not sure if he finished. He also 'appeared' in the film 'A Boy, a Girl and a Bicycle' filmed around the West and North Riding of Yorkshire in the early 50's and starring a very young Honor Blackman and Diana Dors. There is a sequence of a road race bunch up in the Dales and he can just be made out passing the camera - especially if you're quick with the pause button!

RIP Jim.
