I'd be up for this too. In terms of l bend, you do need one, but someon is generally selling them on eBay with ti btw for around £8-10 I think.

The L-bar just secures it more tightly, its not a crucial part (well i don't think so...?).

It was on my Alu 'O' for a while with no probs

The l bend stops the bottle from falling straight out of the bottom, otherwise you just have a nice coloured tube on your bike
