Rim Tape

does tube slippage factor in the decision at all? or is the pressure enough to stop any chance of this?
why is rim tape made if electrician tape suffices? or [a more appropriate question] why is rim tape made the way it is?

Electrician tape is to pliable and not tough enough against the nipple holes you'd have to wind the whole roll around the rim to get what your wanting, proper rim tape shouldn't stretch the knitted construction should stop that.

I use that velox stuff on my road bike but any old crap on my mountain bike due to the pressure difference

I, and apparently others, have been using a couple of layers of electricians tape on our rims for years without any problem at all.

I only wrap the tape round once. Have no problems. Perhaps it helps to run only at 40psi max??

Two or three layers for me and I run at maximum pressure. Weight, what's the weight of three layers of insulting tape compared to the proper stuff ?

Interesting also rolls of electricians tape are so close to the internal rim width.

On my 26'' wheels 5 grams for once round. So 15 grams 3 times round.
Velox tape is 15 grams

I'm not a fan of electrical tape even for electrical use. It's awful tape and I wouldn't be happy seeing it on a wheelset I bought. The strapping tape somebody used was a solid option IMO.
