Rigid or suspension forks - off-road touring

Yeah, still undecided on whether to build here or buy there... pros and cons to both.

Thanks for the recommendation on the tent - I hadn't heard of them.
 
any suspension fork will have to be set up so hard for the extra touring weight that it'll be next to useless unloaded...
 
I'm leaning more and more towards a modern bike to be honest.

edit - just bought a modern bike. 2008 Merlin Malt 1 off of this very forum. No, I hadn't heard of it either. It's got - whisper it - a short top tube. Finally, a modern bike that fits me.

Sew up some frame bags and I'll be away.
 
Yeah I read the review on Bikeradar, looked at the geometry charts, and went for it. Shame I can't use a retro bike but the MF would need new wheels and a fork so it was uneconomical to upgrade - cheaper to go for the Malt. And it'll make a better mountain-bike for when I'm not exploring on it, too.
