Hello James, I don't imagine there's a manual as such but if you Google images you'll track down which year it is by the paintscheme. You can then see if there's a "199X Ridgeback catalogue" online (probably on Retrobike) which might well have the specs for your bike.

Older Ridgebacks are good but from memory the 602GS was towards the more basic end of things. Look at what's clearly worn out and start there - you could renovate the hub bearings with a couple of cheapish tools if they spin less than beautifully in your hands - do the gears slip - could it do with a new chain and sprockets? New grips and cables will help shifting and braking and some decent brake pads (I've always gone for Aztecs) just make a bike feel nicer.

Some jobs do need some more specialist tools (such as if you want to change the rear cassette or change a chain) but you can tinker and fettle with some elbow grease and regular tools. Good luck!

My first adult MTB was an 1988/1989 Ridgeback 601GS - yours may be a similar vintage. Feel free to post some pics and that'll help with identification.
