Ridgeback 1986 help requested

Waterford 45

Diamond Back Fan
Hi folks. Any vintage Ridgeback experts about?? Looking for info on 1986 model - decent catalogue scans even. 531 AT model. Thanks in advance

Hi , If you search for Ridgeback 501 you will find a number of posts about my 1986 model with details

of original component specs . Hope this helps

Thanks. Im fairly sure now its a 1985 531 after seeing a couple of catalogue photos. Tubing is Reynolds All Terrain. Tyres and saddle have been replaced and looks like the bike was garaged for much of its like. Some rust patches but i may keep it as it is. The wheels are immaculate. Ill post better photos.at some.stage..

The Shimano date code KB on the brake lever in your first photo gives Feb 1986 as the manufacturing

date of the lever , so your bike was made some time after that date . In the same photo the thumbshifter

looks to be an EM series SL-MT 50 with a chromed steel base , an aluminium shifter and a plastic top cover

This thumbshifter is the same as those fitted to my 501 model of the same date with a lower spec drivetrain

but otherwise similar . If the LH shifter is the same , it may be that the higher spec XT shifters were

not available at the time of manufacture and a lower spec was substituted ?

Thanks again. The stem on mine is different as well - doesn't have an integrated holder - theres a shimano holder in the headset on mine.
