RH Stick shift front derailleur.

One thing in favor fo his stick shift derrailleur is that his testing shows there's more speed in a full tuck position going down hill than if you pedal in a big ring. What does his testing consist of? Riding down an actual hill. So in hilly terrain just stay in the small ring.

I'm pretty sure Jan Heine PhD. at Rene Herse Ccyles isn't stupid. He's carrying on the tradition of handmade lightweight touring bicycles Rene Herse was known for. He also runs these things himslef in actual bike races. Paris Brest Paris, and Outbound XL. Probably not too many hipsters in that group. I doubt if he expects to sell more than a dozen of these, if that. There may not be more than a dozen people who can actually install one.
I think of it as art as much as anything.
If the fornt derraileeur has you confused, you should see the rear mech that goes with it.

Congratulations Mr Retrorokit your sense of humour transplant is complete. I never once said Jan Heine was stupid. Re read what was actually written and responded to.
Here is a thread full of bicycles with mechs just like the new Jan Heine offering. Nothing has me confused, he has just blatantly copied Nivex.
You have made a few assumptions about me being confused. I stand by what I say you can't fix stupid.

Legs that are not moving will always be more aero, but a big ring will get you down a hill faster than coasting. The issue is that there comes a point where turning a big gear begins to offer less and less speed for the effort required, to overcome wind resistance and drag, so coasting is then the way to go. You can also be even more aero if you have an enormous flat sided handlebar bag and little short mudguards.
