Reviving a Slingshot...new fork steerer

Hey guys,

As you know, finding just the right part for a build can be a bugger some times...this was the case with this fork.

Hoss found a Slingshot fork after looking a LOOOONG time, but the steerer tube was way tiny, so he gave me a call and we fixed him up!

Cut out the old steerer, remitered the blades, and welded in a new full length one inch aheadset style for him.

He rode it for a couple weeks unpainted and now it's at powder waiting for a new finish...should be done Monday!

Another retro bike back on the trail...yee haw :D

Hi Rody, I look forward to your "from the workshop" posts!

When you re-mitre like that using the original blades, I guess you loose diameter at the crown when you create the new mitre - hence the "not - UK friendly " clearances around the tyre, or is the slingshot ridid fork like that normally?
 
A couple answers...

When I cut out the steerer, I cut it below the crown race and then I split it right down the middle, then hand cutting the "inside" aspects of the wall out of the blades. Once the majority of the material is removed, it's a little work with the file, just bringing the miter back to it's original size, so no tire clearance or id is lost.

How you see it is the original dimensions.

The fork will be black (yawn) to match the rest of the bike.

This is Slings original fork design...they used some OEM Tange forks prior to this effort, maybe that's the raked fork you remember.
