Retrofit = worst online sales experience ever

Dirt Disciple
I originally posted in the "official united states sellers thread" that I needed a 1-1/4" threadless stem.

Retrofit PM'd me and said he had a kooka that matched what I was looking for.

I responded and asked how much.

His was response "what's your budget?"

I responded and said I don't necesarilly have a "budget" I buy what I want if I like it. So I asked again how much. He asked me again my budget.

This went on for a little while with him refusing to give me a price.

I grew frustrated at his refusal to give me a price and told him I was going elsewhere.

So he finally gave me a price of $125. This was fine. I asked for his paypal address and paid him immediately.

2 weeks later - I hadn't seen anything - not a ship notice - nothing.

I PM'd him. He replied that he was out of the country - but would return that week.

Well it's been another 2 weeks and still nothing.

This guy is a complete PITA.

If anyone else has a good 130-140m 1-1/4" stem in silver or black - let me know.

Re:

Retrofit still hasn't shipped my stem, and now he's resorting to blackmail.

Here's a PM from him earlier today. Buyer beware!

"I was going to drop your stem off at the post office today, but one of my
forum buddies brought to my attention that you left a malicious feedback
comment about me.
Please remove it immediately, as i did not deserve it.
The stem wont ship out until you update your thread by editing it and
deleting the text.
If you dont do this within 24 hours, i will void the shipping label.
Your payment for the stem will be considered a donation."

Re:

I sent him PayPal as a "gift" so I can't get it back.

But if showing the forum what this guy is really all about costs me $130, then so be it.

The post stays up until I get my stem and an apology.

Totally agree, you shouldn't be blackmailed after it was him that was taking the piss. Karma will soon strike and give him a fair sized portion of what he deserves. Good luck.

Are you both in the USA?

I think so. I am west coast. I think he's east coast.

He did send me an apology. Now I'm just waiting for my stem.

This is potentially a salutary lesson in using PayPal gift. The forum advises against it.
These are transactions for the provision of goods purchased not a club for friends.
Good luck with the outcome and thanks for bringing it to our collective attention

I did it because I believed that a long time member of a forum would value their reputation and ability to continue selling above treating another member like dirt.

I was sort of right - but I never figured I'd have to do this.

Lesson learned. :-)
