Retrobike Trends for 2011

Having just got rid of my Skyway Ta, Mongoose Motomag, Californian I certainly won't be going the BMX way again.

Just glad I've bought mtb's as I don't look so daft looking as a 38 yr old on a bmx!

I've only been on this site a few months and have 3 bikes now and quickly running out of room again, but it's been an absolute pleasure being on here and drooling over some of the bikes on here whilst gaining more knowledge.

Cheers and Merry Xmas everyone.

Gazing onto my Crystal ball

I think the fixie thing is gonna taper off, you can almost get fixie supermarket bikes now

Period correct and vintage original are definitley gonna be making more of an appearance

And early DH, yup I have a Cannondale Super V 1000, totally original, apart from period correct XT Rapid Fires (still have the original Sach wavy's)

People are starting to use words like 'patina' around here!

I'd say the two biggest surprises I saw around here are XTR for everything and how quickly the paint stripper is reached for...

Not knocking it, though - not at all

I think the fact that people DO things with their vintage bikes here rather than fuss about what types of screws a 92 stump jumper's bottle bosses had is refreshing

Back in the early nineties of course there was plenty of anno about in bike shops back then and I think we all indulged in bike candy, or bling as it's later known

I hope it continues, but yeah geeky vintage original is coming - Hopefully room for both approaches!

As far as what I'll be doing in 2011 - trying to finish some projects without starting news ones, building bikes and then riding them!

That's my plan - now there's a baby on the scene time is limited.

There are a couple of things I would like to try though - an early to mid 80's bike and a UK klunker build - need to find the right frame to base that one on! Seen some nice fillet brazed Holdsworths that might be a good start though.

As for trends - not sure - maybe lower end builds if interest rates go up :( - or maybe some more mixing of old and new - DrS's Yo for the 21st century was one of favourites for 2010.

Period correct. Catalogue spec. Barn finds. Patina. Less boutique, crappy parts......they broke BITD, unlikely to have improved with the passing of another 20 years...........

I reckon the "Slow cycling" scene will go off bigtime, and therefore cruiser, mixte and step throughs will be all the rage but done with a twist, with an ancient frame and some choice neo retro parts. I also forsee the price of NOS Tioga Disk drives being sold for pittance, no market for them anymore, just sell them off they are no good.

ps. anyone got a DD they want to sell me at my future hedged price?

Nice try. But... no. ;)

Personally it's comfort and simplicity at the moment.

Thinking singlespeed or 1 x 7 and balloon tyres, a nod to austerity by being able to cope with increasingly crap roads combined with nostalgia for simpler times...

Just fitted some hyuge Big Apples, bouncy!
