Retrobike Trends for 2011

So what will be the next big thing for RetroBike in 2011?

I have noticed a slight lean toward a more period correct theme this year with less anno in evidence. It also been a good year for Klunkers with a few stunning restorations. There has also been a real interest in old road bikes this year with some absolute stunning restorations over the last six months. More of the same in 2011?
I did think after Amybrook outed his fantastic Yeti C26 that we would see more unicorn build racers cropping up but so far we have not had the showing i was expecting.

So for 2011 my predictions are for an increasing interest in early DH bikes from the mid 90's. Prices are on the up and I guess its only a matter of time until we get some really cool builds from that era. I think there could also be more interest at the other end of the spectrum as more pre 1985 bikes are restored and put up for critique. My wildcard guess is we get to see more BMX style cruisers, but these are getting expensive and harder to find.

So what do you think will be the big fashion in 2011?

Discuss...

I'm staying with the low volume British built from the 1980's, a rich vein with plenty of differing designs.

Am a bit bored of 1990's bikes now, was there at the time.

Old touring bikes too, gentlemens' tourers and road bikes.

I'll go with that prediction too, but only as I'm slowly working on a couple of builds now.

I also predict an increase in late 90s period builds and Toads will become a more common siting.

Andy, I notice over on the Aussie forums that when vintage bikes are mentioned its mainly mid to late 90's stuff. Am I right in thinking that mountain bikes caught on a little later over there and therefore those are the bikes that you guys hanker over?

I also think as a newer, younger generation of members get involved in old machines these will be the bikes that have a place in their hearts now they start to have a little disposable income.

i predict at least 2 trimble builds this year
a lot of zaskars will turn up early in the year too

thats my predictions anyway

Are you going for the full look? Brycream, tweeds, Grensons and a pipe? 8)

the early downhill thing has got to take off at some time
thing with these is that most were modded to hell out of the box
so i cant really see many oe builds
probably the biggest influnce will be the state of the economy ,if high (ish)
end parts are still affordable and people are moving them on it could just
be buisness as usual

more european bikes maybe there must be a load somewhere

I think the interest will stray more and more into VRC territory.
