Last night, last job of the evening I get sent to a village quite away from our base which means the fare to wherever will be pretty high. 3 cars required and it turns out to be a wedding.

Guy in the kilt didnt sound very scottish and turned out to be a very drunk groom. Anyway, lots of kids, a bride and a tipsy groom in my car - 5 people. Now my licence only allows me to carry 4 'persons' inc babies on laps, they all count. MR. Groom gets very angry and starts swearing and hitting the car and I just think to myself - oh balls...

Anyway, try to negotiate a cheaper price with the other two taxi drivers but they are greedy and having nothing of it so its gonna be at least £90 for a bout a 5 mile trip... :shock:


BUT - I'm trying to calm this guy down by talking about ANYTHING...''I havent been down here in a while, not since I cycled down here''

Anyway, turns out the guy is an ex semi pro roadie and new what my Orange road frame was and Columbus SLX tubing etc. I mentioned the RB site and in doing so, he went from brooding angry drunk to happy chappy and telling all his mates and his Dad that 'I was a decent bloke, sort him out a tip'.

Phew...

i thinks that is more your interpersonal skills saving your ass.

i dont like our local taxi firm (drive like absolute idiots, guote £8 then charge £15, turn up late,etc etc etc) but i do think taxi drivers in gerneral deserve medals.

i am pleased i dont have to deal with drunk people on a regular basis
