Retrobike resolutions 2025?

1) Failed. Rode less this year than the year before. Not really sure why though.

2) Done. Major clear out and lots of bits that I just wasn't going to use got sold on. Still a few bits to do, but de-cluttering has felt good.

3) Partial. In the two-wheeled context a bit of a fail on account of #1, however as a metaphor for life it's been a bit of a success and a realisation that doing my own thing is just fine thank you very much.

Oh, and I found my Unicorn. 16 years after I first joined here in the hope to gain knowledge about it and maybe even find one.
What is your unicorn?

A 1994 GT Talera with the mighty Alivio groupset and a very rare blue paintjob. A replica of the first MTB I bought with my own money.

In truth, the one I have is badged a Timberline - but it's the same frame, paintjob and kit. The only Talera in that colour I could find was in South Africa.

A build thread to follow...

hmmm

Def ride more, especially outside (for health reasons way more have been inside than out). Finish the Explosif - it’s coming upto three years of virtually no progress, mainly because I’d like to say “no more bikes”,
So 2025…
Met Al (among others) at the Malverns 👍
Did not get any more bikes 🤔
Did ride more, but almost exclusively inside - whoever designed the human body needs to sit down and have a bloody good word with themselves and think about what they’ve done.🤬
The Explosif has spent another year of me trying to work out what colour I want it to be - starting to narrow it down to five or six. 🌈
Seat post still won’t come out of the Stumpy 🙁

In my experience, goals should be structured around:

Process
Performance, followed by
Outcomes

There're more attainable that way. So saying "selling more stuff" is the outcome. What's the process and performance goals that'll get you there? Perhaps and for example:

I will review/go through my spares/projects and decide what to sell
I will complete this by March 2025
I will publish the for sale items/ebay listings in April 2025

On that basis and following 2024's successes my goals are:

I will continue to develop and build my core strength
I will maintain and develop my turbo trainer and yoga activities around my existing exercise/regime
I will complete the 2025 SWXC series and improve on my 2024 results: lap times/duration/positions

Doing this ultimately meets my objective to keep on riding, enjoy and develop my riding confidence and skills, and keep me actively engaged with biking :)

I will continue to develop and build my core strength

Well happy with how that's progressed this year. More muscle, less fat, and the diesel engine has a ton more capacity. It feels like I'm closing the chasm to the whipper-snappers (still miles off mind).

I will maintain and develop my turbo trainer and yoga activities around my existing exercise/regime

Well happy with this as well. With the garage project well underway, when the new doors and flooring are in I can upgrade my rudimentary trainer set-up from Onelap to Zwift. Yoga continues to inspire and develop my capabilities.

I will complete the 2025 SWXC series and improve on my 2024 results: lap times/duration/positions

Check. I had to miss 3 of the 7 this year due to clashes and awful weather but for those I entered, my times were better than 2024. I'm still miles off the podium places so 2026 will be about continuing to improve physically and focus on my skills which need notable improvement.

#blessed #privileged #rollon2026
