I suppose you checked the Rides calender when you picked the 18th for the Gates ride ???

As the 18/19th has been posted as the YORKSHIRE WEEKENDER since Jan (its our National Event)

As far as a National series its changed its name this year to "Retrobike Classic MTB Ride"

The Yorkshire Area holds a ride EVERY month and a Weekender in summer,

Have a look you never know it may make some want to ride a bike

Give it a rest ffs.

Re:

Brocklander...a few months ago Grafton was mental on eBay, Germans went at it hard, now it's really calmed. Certain items and brands definitely trend when a really good build threads stimulates interest ( WD Pro/ Kingroon et al ). It is true that almost every build has been done many times  .

I have only been back on the scene 2yrs now so don't know how cheap they were a few years ago. Yos seem good value if you don't mind doing some refurb work or importing a later model.Early Kleins are still strong money.

There are a lot of bling hoarders sitting on £££s worth of super rare desirable parts. Like the property market, the big question is do they sell now or hold out for even further 'potential' price hikes that will most likely not arise IMO short to medium term, especially if demand is on the wane. Traders always say sell before the market peaks. IMO it did so around 6months ago. We are all getting older, riding a bit less, paying for kids etc The next vanguard will be late nineties and noughties retro builds.

Personally, I'd like to see more customised paint jobs and maybe tasteful restore mods.

I looked at my 'hoard' this evening:

Now, this isnt a cartwheel through an amputee ward contest nor is it dick swinging of any kind, but, this is what I have so far and all accrued for very little money.

98' Marin Mt. Vision, 91' DB Topanga, 98' Raleigh RSP300 853, 98' CB Professional 853, 00' Stumpjumper M2 Pro, 89' Ridgeback 602LX

All bought this year for around £260 (plus sundries like cables/ chains etc)

Thats what I enjoy the most, finding, fixing and having fun with

I would question whether the bling hoarders are here to make money...someone who can blow £200 on a NOS XTR mech is unlikely to be worried about making a few extra quid selling it on.

Agree with the above ^^^. No doubt some do collect "bling" to sell/trade, but far more collect it for collectings sake, you've only got to look at some of the photos on this very site to see how much bling some folk have stashed away or in glass cabinets, often mutliples of exactly the same thing.
However, like footballers & their wives, collecting bling is one thing, it doesn't necessarily mean it's tasteful bling.

Having bought & sold a few things this year on RB I feel the market in general is a little quieter just now, not hugely so, probably just the usual ebb & flow of things tbh.

Think you might actually be on to something there. What's retro for some isn't for others and each generation will have it's own idea of what fits in to their nostalgia.

Maybe the late 80's, early 90's mob (which we seem to predominantly be) have had their go and the interest has peaked and will continue to decline? Those that are interested in that period have on the whole been down memory lane with many now happy to move on to the next time/money drain? It will rise again in some form and possibly through this site but will be focused on what the 'generation' of the time remember. Say stuff that is just old kit now, early 2000's full suss and the like. In 5/10 years time that will be the desirable gear as people try to relive their youth, just as we have. Most of it is just 'old modern rubbish' now.

I could also be talking bollox mind.

Re:

We are coming to the end of our era 80/90s maybe. A few iconic bikes will still command decent money, the same with iconic cars of that era. Or maybe it will be like fashion and music trends which circulate every ~ 20yrs

I was watching a Singletrack vid on FB last night. These two lads were shredding in close formation over tough terrain at speeds unimaginable bitd. It really brought it home to me how much it's almost like freestyle skiing now. A middle aged fatty on a Fat bumbling along would be the equivalent of a moped holding up the fast lane. They have to watch out for those trees that jump out or they will be feeding through a straw for 6mths..

I think there might be a bit of that, but if that is the case why is it not happening with the BMX scene? :?

Those guys are mostly of the same era, i.e. had a BMX as a kid and MTB as a teen or young adult. But the prices of their stuff seems really crazy. Why would older age, kids etc affect one branch of cycle nostalgia and not another very closely related one?
