I do it all the time. I think it's a great way of bringing an old frame to life that may otherwise languish at the back of the shed. Others have a different view.
Nveer done it yet , but i am going this way with the litespeed . It is going to be used as my main , all weather bike , so needs at least one disc and a good fork .
its something i have toyed with the idea of doing at some point i look at it like i look at computers if you continualy upgrade you will be skint but wont fall behind on tech and a good frame is like a good case when you find one you like you tend to stick to it
No problem for me! Best if its to be used often and done it before.
There are parts of me that say 'why?' when you can get a new frame for peanuts though :?
So I just bought a newer frame aswell
When folk buy a new bike they often upgrade parts as and when they can and/or fashion or function dictate. Loads of us stuck V-brakes on in 96/97 when Shimano made them for the masses.
The frame is the heart and soul of the bike after that its just fitting the best kit you can find.
i simply fit the best (in my opinion) part for the job, that falls within my budget. hence my thumbies make their home on an x-lite riser bar, next to some v-brake levers
