Retro style modern black rims

I've managed to find a pair of the Exal LX17 rims for a better price than at spa cycles. Just need to figure out which spokes to use with them and the xt hubs and they could be purchased.

I picked up a 96 stumpy recently which was fully original except the wheels - they had been replaced with silver Mavic XM317 and Deore T610 hubs (also in silver). I believe both are available in black - I'm actually very happy with the wheels and seem like a good retrobike replacement option.

With groovyblueshed's experience it might have just been the wheel builder. There is an excellent one near me (in Cranleigh) I can recommend - works out of Beyond Mountain Bikes. He would happily take some pre purchased rims and hubs and build the wheels. Let me know if you need some more info...

Thanks! Even though I live in Enfield and work in Wombledon, Cranleigh is quite feasible – especially for a custom build and would be an excuse to get out beyond the M25. Most places don't seem to want to know about custom builds from bits you've already got.

I actually sat on the deck one afternoon with huge tea and biscuits and steadily dismantled two old wheels. It was actually quite a zen-like and instructional process. The aim was to recover the STX Parallax hubs to refurbish and use them again in a retro build.
