Retro SABA road bike

Stiggolas

Retro Newbie
Hi all, noob here but I have a SABA road frame, not sure if it's the Columbus SL version or just the regular Columbus, however, I'm told that if it has a 27.2mm seat post then it's SL (here's hoping). I've had it since the early 90s. It was a full bike once and rode lovely and was the most comfortable road bike I've owned. I'm thinking about building it up using period or replica components. Please can you list some general specs so I can start putting things together. I know it didn't have indexed gears and was 7 speed. The Omas headset is still fitted as is an Italian thread square taper BB. I have some Mavic open 4CDs which could be fitted if they're from the same period.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ian Hallam rode for KP Crisps / SABA so pics of him might give give a clue. However, being Italian it really needs Campag stuff from the era. Late 70's to early 80's

Underneath the winning rider panto and SABA on the seat stays its a Viner.

SABA did some branded stuff like bars and Panto Cinelli stems as well.

I scratched an itch and finally found a saba equipe 'doer-upper' in 2019, literally 40 years after I first saw and lusted after one @Stiggolas! It took a long time and fair bit of digging to get it just how I wanted it but it was worth it...

I think they did shoes and clothing also. I kind of remember getting a pair of Saba shoes with my first proper race bike (two sizes too big!)

Kinda want a KP Crisps jersey now!
