This I may never comprehend. I was browsing locally and found this interesting piece. Not my size but I bookmarked it anyway

The seller claims he did an awesome job making the frame like "new" and throws in a modern fork..

For me, what matters is if it gets ridden.

I understand that there are purists out there who grow stomach ulcers worrying about whether the original chain on a 1994 Marin Palisades was from KMC or Shimano, and make sure that there is a blob of yellow grease on the spring of their NOS 300LX rear mech.

Personally I like the way many older bikes ride and feel happy to repaint etc as my whimsy takes me. It's not as if green and metallic purple is a nice colour scheme after all!

These are mass-produced industrial objects, not individual works of art.

I too have committed some "heinous crimes" with paint,,,Like Hamster I prefer the ride of some older bike. In my defence all of my bikes are mechanically sound and get used on a regular basis,I also have pointed several people towards this forum and also saved a couple of people wasting their money on a new budget priced BSO and helped them find an older bike which they now enjoy.
Being guilty of the above crime has deterred me from posting pics of my machines.Having spent a lot of my life involved with classic vehicles, some of it being paid for my time and skills,I have seen some things I don't like but have always either helped or congratulated everyone on "having a go".
The way I see it is anything is better than the scrap man sending it to china to be turned into something truly awful.
so many times I have been left feeling that a sense of proportion has been lost,,,,they are not "individual works of art" just quality kit designed to do a job and as such I love seeing them being used and even abused.
Catalogue correct is cool,so is individuality, just get out and use them.
Mark :D

it is now a usable bicycle , you can ride it up the hills or to the shops
and it dont look too bad either
a new lease of life

People do what they wand to their bikes - to make them more usable appealing or less nickable - i just spent a good week stripping off a load of inner tubes and 10 coats of white emulsion off a Specialized S works as the previous owner had "anti theftified" it

Most of the treks shoved onto the u.k. were just sales fodder that could have easily been labelled something else

When you have that then almost anything goes as you know the value isn't much so you have very little to lose.
