Retro mtb "collectors"

Re:

Isn't a 'collection' by definition a set of more or less equally prized possessions?

Or, if you like, each item in a collection helps to define and value all the other items in that collection?

I guess I'm thinking too hard.. :)

A question for those interested: What is your prized possession? Don't think too hard, first thing that springs to mind. Not necessarily the 'right' thing reached after a longer think.

My bikes (and all the stuff with them i.e. jerseys, magazines, catalogues, posters, etc.) and records.

I couldn't answer that question straight away coming from a poor household growing up all your possessions were cherished but nowadays they could take everything away as long as I had my wife and dog. I see possessions as just for rent they are nice to have but you can't take them with you. The question I ask myself is "am I a collector or a hoarder ?" I have loads of parts I should sell but then I go and by another frame.

I think it’s perfectly healthy to collect stuff, but equally healthy at times to have a I clear out, and sell stuff, and to start again somewhat. I quite like the hunt for parts, or a bike. I guess with experience I have become more restrained, in the past buying a part or bike without really factoring in much. Additionally, I have whittled down my “collection” by assessing whether the bike is the right size, is it comfortable, do I enjoy riding it, will it be used. And if not, find a new home!
