Retro-Inspired Kona Hula

Drilled using a pillar drill and 13mm bit, then tapped with 9/16” pedal taps. Cut the ends off, then shape using a combination of bench grinder, belt sander and finished by hand with sandpaper.
This is awesome, and now you've inspired me to embark on my own 24" build for the boy! Picked up a trek 220 for £15!

Is it safe to assume that fork choices were limited? did you do anything specific to the Pace's (other than adjust the canti clamps/brace height)?

Nice one! Post up your progress!
Unless you’re re prepared to structurally ‘adjust’ a set of forks, Pace are your best bet. These required a fair bit of work other than the movement of clamps - one of the legs had come unbonded (the risk of ageing or hard-used components) so I had to clean and epoxy it back in place. Also my son is only 25kg so the internals were hopelessly over-sprung. I removed the internal stacks, replaced with soft elastomers in one leg only, along with a very light spring in the same leg. With an alloy steerer, the result is a very light fork which responds well to small bumps for a very light rider. I can take some pics of the internal stack if you like.
