Retro frame with modern parts??

Hi all,

I was just thinking of something... I have like this KLEIN Attitude from 1990 and it's my riding bike now. It's got lots of nice parts on it to keep it original and I must say I don't think it's too heavy (haven't weighed it though).

Now, would it be in any way acceptable to rebuild this bike with modern parts? So off go the M735 XT parts and all, and put on i.e. SRAM X.0 parts, lightweight wheels and carbon stuff like a seatpost and cranks (do these exsist for square taper BBs??) and stuff like it.

I was actually wondering how light I would end up having my Attitude, since the frameset isn't too heavy at all. Would be very cool actually, having an "old bike" that weighs in as light as all those new bikes?

Or is this a "not done" thing?? Was just wondering

Try it and see. If you love it, ignore everyone that wants it to be authentic. If you hate it, swap all the bits back and don't tell anyone you did it!

Let's face it, if modern forks were as short as early '90s ones then most of us would have them on our retro rides...

Totally agree....a lot of modern stuff looks fine with older frames. Try and see..and at the end of the day it is your bike...if it works for you, thats great :D
Hey SB, thats twice we have agreed with each other now

I've got an M-Trax titanium with a full modern XT build and SIDs. It works great, it's light and it still has retro cool!

I do like the idea having a retro frame and forks with modern bits on it, my Cannondale have a mixture of both and I am pleased with it.

i prefer to keep retro and modern as seperate as possible but its your bike dide. if you want to do it then do it. who cares if you upset people. its not as if you are cutting the frame in half or anything.

i worry sometimes that people consider what other people think far too much. #

you have a great idea to make your bike better. do it
