retro derailleur hanger alignment

I recently acquired an alignment tool, but I'm not sure about using it on a steel bike with a non-replaceable mech hanger. Anything I need to be aware of?

As far as I'm aware, cold setting of steel frames is accepted practice. That includes gear hanger alignment and re-spacing the rear dropouts.

as long as you are careful, steel hangers can be put back from the most extreme positions

this had been through a wheel/ derailleur entanglement and was put back without issue

You can see from the paint how far it had got - sadly no 'before' pic
