Restoring a GT STS

CGH

Retro Newbie
Hi all. I'm currently restoring a GT STS and was wondering if anyone can give me a tip on how to refinish the carbon fiber? I stripped the frame clean form old decals with hot water and a scotch pad. The clear coat(?) is now faded and I wish to bring it back to its shiny(or matte?)glory. I heard WD40 works great but haven't tried anything until now.

Further on I got a pair of Spin wheels, Easton Carbon fiber handlebar and a set of Michelin Wildgripper in red. This bike is going to be pretty sweet looking!

I'm not sure if there is a clear coat on these frames. It seems to me the finish is the thermplastic/carbon matrix. It's not a really smooth or glossy finish... not even matte. It has some texture to it. Being thermoplastic (maybe some sort of polyethylene?) I don't think it's too sensitive to chemicals, but I would avoid WD40. If you want to give it some lustre, maybe automotive wax?
