I remember e-mailing the original owner last year and enquired..
He told me the holes were drilled at the top of the stays to remove a build up of rust from the inside of the rear triangle
I checked out the auction a short while before it ended, read the description in a bit more detail and thought, NOPE :!:

Okay. Is it really to remove rust or to prevent for rust? I very well recall a thread on a German forum that told it is good to drill holes in sealed frames, so rust preventive material can be brought in :shock:
The frame is apparently a Sherpa. Last week I acquired a ProFRO ...and of course as like with all my bikes, I will take the best measures possible. I will spray fluid oils (FluidFilm Liquid A) in areas not so well accesable and a tough grease (Mike Sander) that has to be heated up to 100 celsius in area that are very well accesable. Now I have a question. The Yeti frame is actually semi sealed. They are not sealed like Yo's are, as with Yo's only the seat tube is open. Even bottle mounts are closed. With the ProFRO the top tube can be entered through the headtube, the down tube through the bottle mounts, the mono chain stay through the BB housing and the little tube between the seat stays has a vey tiny hole. Now I am wondering whether the loop stays will be reached trough the mono chain stay section? Is there an opening between the mono section and the loops?

My old rusty SHERPA had a completely sealed rear triangle and i do not recall there being any access to get cavity wax in there..
It would be a really good idea to put tiny holes into the rear stays through the bottom bracket shell, then waxing it to death I do not know if you can access the stays through the mono section though :? Your frame is an early PRO FRO and made from better steel i think 
I intend on doing the same when i aquire another
Ive waxed all of my frames internally but have to say, the SHERPA was the only one i didnt/couldnt! And it rusted :roll:

My old rusty SHERPA had a completely sealed rear triangle and i do not recall there being any access to get cavity wax in there..
It would be a really good idea to put tiny holes into the rear stays through the bottom bracket shell, then waxing it to death
I do not know if you can access the stays through the mono section though :? Your frame is an early PRO FRO and made from better steel i think I intend on doing the same when i aquire another

That looks superb condition..Yes, it is in a very proper condition! So ...guess I won't lent you my loop tail. I am sorry.

Parts I liked on the original build were the Syncros forged cranks, ControlTech post and Zero QRs. Some of them might make their return What absolutely won't make its return is the SID Race and the SRAM 9.0 groupset.
I got it as complete bike, but I did the build that much that I stripped the bike as soon as I had the chance. I start from zero. Should make a great project for the upcoming spring months
