I've seen some fantastic restorations on this site, some evoke brilliant memories of garish licra/ paint combinations from when I was 'yoof.

I've decided to restore my '93 Zaskar LE to as near original as dammit (or at least with original retro fit parts from the time).

I've found the original Cr-mo front loading stem, I've got the original groupset (except the wheels as I have the Hope/Mavic that I got built almost straight away).

I've also found the black XT cantis that came with the bike.

I've decided to use Sithlord's Tange Switchblades instead of Mag 21's

Question is - how much is too much?

I still need some amberwall tyres, original '93 graphics and some black XT 110 BCD chainrings both sadly seem to be made of unobtainium.

 hmmm...

I think the word 'restoration' is the give away here.. I think if you are restoring the bike .. it has to be restored to the original factory spec.. and be ridden...

tricky - wheels/decals/forks/seat/s-post would all need changing then!

oh god - does this madness ever end?? :P

I'd stop at the point where I'd be scared to ride it when I'd finished.

Err! I passed that with my AMP B3. NOS White Panaracer Magics, NOS Mavic 117 ceramic rims, Fully polished frame and forks, fully polished M900 cranks, NOS Onza Ti pedals, and the list goes on. When the Ti springs go on then it will pain me even more.
I have never ridden this bike.
Gone are the days when i would stay up all night, frantically building, so that I could ride and test my new purchase as soon as day came.

I now seem to assess and then incubate parts. They sit there all warm and protected in a heated room. I regularly get them out, nuture them and carefully box them back up until next time.

I think I'll have to get a Black saddle and Black tyres so that I can ride it when it's finished.

Dude, what's the point in having it if you can't ride the damn thing? It's a bike after all, if it's too precious to be ridden, it's stopped being a bike and become .......well, just an over priced ornament that is too big to go over the fire place..........................and the cure for the white Panaracers? get um dirty.

Totally Agree with that fella...

Bikes are for riding, thats why they were created... get out and enjoy.....
