restoration - how far do you go?

I built up my Breezer to the original spec, the only exceptions being the tyres (which aren't made any more) and the SPD pedals (which are the right age for the bike though). It's been a fun exercise restoring it to how it was "in the catalogue" but a bit nuts really from a riding point of view - back in 1992 my paper round money always went on bike upgrades!

99.9% of riders who were active in 96/97 couldn't wait to add v-brakes.....

That makes me a .1%-er then (someone who fell in love with Magura's 4 years earlier :) )

Cantis do suck but being a completist (= idiot trying to be Period Correct) they are on my Funk, Rocky and 'Dale (shame they are crap....)

Interesting...while Magura rim brakes were a quantum leap from cantis, I always found V's to be screechy, short lived and horribly grabby.

If 99% wanted rid of cantis in 1996 then not long after they lusted after discs.

Nope.

V's were a god send...............still use a set of the original parallelogram XT's They've never given me any reason to want rid of them and my frame and fork won't take disks so..... :D

I replaced my XT cantis with XT v brakes in 1997 and wondered what all the fuss was about. Ditto the maguras I fitted 2 years later. The real advance for me was when XC disc brakes became widely available.
