Resource overload / fairplay in BOTM

I got nothing to add really.

I vote for the bike I like.

I do enjoy some fun dialogue though.

And the people who say the bike needs to be ridden back into the ground to be cool. That bugs me. Tells me they have never spent an hour cleaning an old derallieur until it looks new before.

So, I guess I had something.

Re:

How about a member wins BOTM, then he can't win again. Still win BOTY of course. If anyone says we will run out of decent bikes they are being elitist.

..Are the Brit bikers here not as competitive, or just more laid back when the inevitable bunfight starts?

Neither. They're more afraid of offending someone than calling a spade a spade.

Interesting interpretation.

I guess on some levels you're right. I know I try to avoid to come across as a keyboard warrior, and I'd have to concur that primarily US based forums do tend to be far more aggressive places to be.

Its actually unfair to label that 'Brit bikers' are this way. I would say the majority of the users on this forum are this way.

Er, yes, and the majority are Brits. Kinda nailed my point there Bud, thanks!

There does seem to be a hardcore of inverse-snobbish STX loving on here, often bleating about the money spent on a BOTM level bike, but at the same time, there's a crew of people who love basically identical all-nos snorefests of bikes

in years gone past there was an opportunity for flair and distinction to win BOTM, but nowadays it seems you have to have the bike from the magazine ad, not the bike from your local trails to get close to winning

Hands up if you rode your bike stock back in the day *hand is down*

Afraid? Methinks you conflate politeness with meekness.

I rarely see Rumpfy post in BoTM. I do, however, see a number of "locals" throw their £2 in (<--yes, the £2 quip is sarcasm) then start with the bag swingin' on a regular basis.

I agree. If I don't like a bike then it won't get my vote but I won't tell the owner that I think his bike is crap. What's the point in that? I don't see anything wrong with a little constructive criticism, especially if something is set up incorrectly but there's no need for rudeness.

By openly stating "I think this bike is one of the best around" (which is what entering BOTM does, whether you like it or not) you are opening yourself to that criticism, and you should take it.
