You guys make it sound like stalling it would be difficult. Stick it in 6th and side step the clutch

Wow, genius. I'll be sure to write this little tip on a post it note. Pray tell, do you have more nuggets of wisdom you'd care to share with us?

Just make the thread a sticky John then no need to go hunting for a post-it note and the inevitable glue drying and your precious post-it coming un stuck and fluttering away thereby causing endless engine damage while you scrabble around trying to find it.

If we get any more top tips I will be sure to do so.

Just imagine the scenario, turbo has failed, smoke everywhere, key in hand, engine running. What to do! What to do! If only I had the damned post it note....

I've seen that happen to a van at a petrol station - van pulls up with horrible smoke absolutely pouring out the back - driver jumps out and runs into garage shop for help, asian fella from the garage who doesn't speak very much english starts gesticulating wildly and shouting at him "KEYS!!!KEYS!!!" Van driver then waves them at him!!!! Cue a very puzzled expression on petrol station chaps face!!!!! Hilariously the van was signwitriien for a company called Firesafe or something similar

I can only guess it must be quite a scary situation to be in as the driver though

@roostheboss - guess that was the point myself and others were trying to make in a roundabout way. Many people wouldn't think to stall the car and thus an expensive repair bill would quickly turn into a very expensive one...

I can fairly safely say it was an expensive one as my boss and I watched and listened as the engine slowly ate itself to death......

Hah! My turbo has been relieved of its duties by disconnecting the wastegate pipe. it still spins but the turbo only gives light pressure at low revs and the cars software disconnects it altogether if it detects overboost.

This will help the car limp along for another few weeks maybe.

Not recommended if you want to overtake anything faster than a bicycle.

Its similar to when the MAF/MAP sensors go, the software puts the engine into a safe mode so it basically becomes a non turbo diesel, giving about 63hp.

MPG stays the same, 54mpg yesterday when dropping off a road bike at J21 of the M1.

I have that sinking feeling that the engine will go next if I stick a new turbo on but needs must and all that.

Try AET Turbos in Wakefield for a reconditioned turbo, I know of several folk who've used them in the past.
Can't see the point in buying new tbh?

I used TurboRepairs in Blackpool when my Mitsi's turbo died, completely gutted, cleaned casing, and new inners, for £500 lloked as good as new and been running fine for 18 months (touch wood).

The guy was very good and an ex TVR employee, if that makes any difference.
