Repair: Chain slip at high torque

He means; are you sure it's not the pawls in the freehub body slipping? You know, the bit the cassette slides onto, rather than the cassette itself.
wouldn't it happen in all sprockets then? The hub, and consequently freehub is quite new, like 200 miles max. Are you guys having a laugh at my expense now?

Not necessarily. You're putting a lot of torque through the free hub when you stamp on the big ring - small cog combo. More than in any other ratio. It might be enough to make it slip.
I'm not saying this is your problem, but it's worth considering.

its unlikely to be the freehub if its that new(you didnt tell us that) i would suggest a new shimano cassette and chain :)

I've had that problem with a dodgy freehub and it feels different to the usual chain slip around old cassette problem. It kind of slips in a stiff kind of way, not jerky. Hard to describe :? Like trying to cycle with your brakes on.

Never noticed the new hub bit. Ignore me.....I'll go away.

I do appreciate the help from all, it's frustrating is all. My money's on b-tension or the derailleur can't cope with less than 13teeth. What about the fact the derailleur is snapping inwards during these slips?
It.s a jerky, snapping slip. I definitely think it's happening at the back corner of the bike.

is the upper rear der pulley perfectly straight below the 12t cog? is the rear der cable still under tension when the rear der is at the lowest position? or is the low limit not set properly? maybe the rear der is trying to shift because it is not properly adjusted.

sorry if that has been asked already, i did not read all postings...

Carsten, your thoughts mirrored mine. I just checked the limits and cable tension, but alas that has not helped. The pulley is directly below the sprocket. Going to leave it for tonight.
