Hi

Has anybody got any good recommendations on how to remove old stickers /decals from a frame so that they are not left sticky and patchy after wards but also not damaging the Frame work
Any Advice would be appropriated

Cheers

Yup, works 99% of the time.

Any sticky residue left behind can be removed with a rag and either white spirit or nail varnish remover.

last time tried it on my 92 RM Equipe - a nightmare ! the vinyl of the decals came losse, but the adhesive still stays on the frame

after rubbing down the adhesive with my fingers (took my some time) I wipe the parts of the frame first with Brunox and then with rubbing alcohol & ethyl spiritus. This works fine and did no harm to the paint / powdercoating.

some weeks ago I removed a lot of decals from my T2 bus, some of them more then 30 years old, with some adhesive remover from D.I.Y. stores. Removed the adhesive very well, but if you leave it to long on the paint surface, it will also remove some of the paint.

Another point to consider is, depending on how long the decal(s) have been on the frame, the paint or anodizing may have faded but the area under the decal(s) wont have.

So, if its an older frame and you arent doing like for like replacement decal(s) you may encounter problems.

Hairdryer's always worked well for me, and on a painted frame, I use a car paintwork cutting fluid (T-cut in the UK - don't know if you have a similar product in Germany?) once the decals are off, to remove the sticky residue.

The added benefit of this is that goes someway to restoring the faded paint problem that was mentioned up there^^^

you should be able to remove those faded sticker marks^^^^ with my paint cutting-fluid technique, above.

I just removed all the decals on my yellow Zaskar (97) so 13 years of fading, and a good hour of t-cut the fading is all done and uniform yellow again, and i've only lost microns of paint depth.
